For me, these hurdles have come in the form of various health battles—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Feeling Grounded: The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Okay, friend, let's talk about holiday shopping! But not just any shopping. I'm talking about investing in something truly special for yourself (and maybe a loved one too!). This year, I'm all about the gift of health and wellness, and I've found something pretty amazing: Grounding Mats.

What is Grounding? 🤔

Grounding (also called earthing) is all about connecting to the Earth's natural energy. You can do this by walking barefoot outside or using conductive products like grounding mats that allow your body to absorb electrons from the Earth. Why is this good? Well, it's believed to help neutralize those pesky free radicals!

In other words, exposure to a lot of the everyday toxins surrounding us (chemicals, EMF’s, pollution) increase the amount of free radicals in our body. 

Free radicals are dangerous because of their ability to damage important cellular structures, potentially leading to various diseases and accelerated aging. 

The Benefits of Grounding ✨

Research suggests grounding can offer some amazing benefits:

  • Reduce Inflammation. Grounding has been associated with a rapid resolution of inflammation-related symptoms following injuries and may contribute to faster wound healing 


  • Better Sleep. A small study reported that participants using grounding mats experienced better sleep metrics, including longer sleep duration and fewer awakenings


  • Stress Relief. Participants in studies reported reduced pain and stress levels after using grounding products, suggesting a potential calming effect on the nervous system. Additionally, grounding may help shift the autonomic nervous system from sympathetic (stress-related) to parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) states, promoting relaxation


  • Cardiovascular Health. Grounding has been shown to improve blood flow and reduce blood viscosity. I had a few questions before buying a mat:

  • Sheets vs. Mats: While grounding sheets are convenient, they don't seem to last as long. Mats are more durable and effective in the long run.

  • Mat Size: You don't need a mat that covers your entire bed. As long as you're touching it, you'll reap the benefits, especially while sleeping!

  • Skin Contact: Bare skin is ideal for grounding, but thin sheets are okay too, especially with longer contact time.

  • Grounding Options: Besides mats, there are grounding socks, wristbands, pillowcases, and more!

  • Quality Matters: Look for mats made from high-quality materials like carbon and vegan leather. Top brands include Hooga, Earthing, and Earth + Moon.

  • Tester Tip: You can get a tester to ensure your house is grounded properly and your mat is working effectively.

  • Nature is Best: Of course, nothing beats walking barefoot outside on the Earth! If you live in a climate that allows for that, take advantage of it!
